Recited to Wor. Bro. Richard Herbert, the newly Installed Master of Jefferson Lodge No. 535 Grand Lodge of Michigan, on December 17th, 2005, by Diane Block (Bethel Guardian of Job?s Daughters) |
I saw them tearing a building down
A gang of men in a busy town,
With a Ho - Heave - Ho and lusty yell,
They swung a beam and a side wall fell.
I asked the foreman, are these men skilled,
As the men you would hire if you had to build.
The foreman laughed, no indeed
Just common labour is all I need.
I can easily wreck in a day or two,
What it has taken others years to do.
I asked myself as I walked my way,
Which of these roles have I tried to play.
Am I a builder who works with care,
Measuring life with a Rule and Square,
Or am I a wrecker who walks the town,
Content with the labour of tearing down.
